Week 6 putting it all together, Part 2

Our group has really progressed in ability in just 6 weeks. Take a look back to week one in the older posts and see how far everyone has come. Very impressive and my congratulations to all that participated in our "New York" style class.
Coming next session, beginning painting the portrait, starting March 14th.
In drawing we think with line, in painting we will be thinking in shapes and the planes of the face.

We talked about characteristics of each area, and looked at old master drawings to see how different artists have rendered the nose. Our model, Rosa, was fantastic today!

Take-home Project, Composition

This week's project is to look at an art book or magazine and see how the portrait is composed within the rectangle. Draw out the composition as a thumbnail, to better understand the shapes. Above are some examples of thumbnails, not very detailed, just the big shapes. Please bring your drawing sheet to class.

Below,a drawing from my figure group, need new sharpies!
